Nécessaire
This nécessaire, created in the 1920s, is a loose interpretation of Far Eastern art in its typology, materials, and iconography. Its cylindrical form refers to Japanese inrō and its black enamel decoration bears a Chinese ideogram made of diamonds at its center. Its black casing, enhanced by a platinum border set with diamonds, contrasts with the sobriety of the carved white jade plant motifs that allow the red enamel background to show through at each end.
