Bagatelle bracelets
Jewels named Couscous Bagatelle in the Maison’s archives, shows the variants of a single model applied to different jewelry forms. This series of pieces is distinguished by its gold work, illustrating the quality of Van Cleef & Arpels’ craft with this metal. The Couscous motif consists of a succession of rings on which beads of polished yellow gold are arranged, mounted on a Tubogas mesh that gives the piece immense flexibility. Examples of it are dotted with small three-colored florets of rubies, sapphires, and diamonds that demonstrate the longevity of the Hawaii motif, first seen in 1938. As for the Bagatelle motif, it is characterized by stylized florets. The Couscous Bagatelle model that appeared at the very end of the 1940s was made up of a combination of these two motifs.
