Stork brooches
This pair of brooches was a special order dating from 1939, very much in keeping with the series of patriotic jewelry created by the Maison at that time. They represent the insignia of one of the French air force squadrons, Escadrille SPA 26, known by the name of “cigognes de Saint-Galmier” (Storks of Saint Galmier). Each brooch features a stork in full flight, its body plumage composed of brilliant-cut round diamonds with openwork platinum wings set with baguette cut diamonds. The waders’ feet and beaks are in calibrated rubies, and a bezel-set ruby depicts their eye. The distinctive horizontality of these pieces successfully conveys the aerodynamic movement and rapid flight of these migratory birds.
