This piece introduces the Daisy pattern, created in the middle of the 1940’s, typified by counter relief and engraved yellow gold floral motifs. In some examples, the hearts of the daisies are decorated with platinum motifs set with diamonds. Like the Bagatelle motif, the daisy pattern is characterized by its repetition across the entire surface of each piece, and was applied to Van Cleef & Arpels’ entire range of boxes, including Minaudières, cigarette cases, and more unusual forms such as a nécessaire inspired by Japanese inrō, in keeping with the stylistic heritage of the 1920s updated in 1950s taste. The motif was also used for a group of accessories, underlining the Maison’s interest in precious objects. Such meticulous jewelry work showcased everyday objects such as pens, lighters, lip brushes, cigarette holders, and perfume bottles.
