Purse clasp
The Maison’s archives from the early 1930s contain many clasp clips for purses, illustrating a taste for this type of jewelry in keeping with the evolution of women’s wardrobes and a more widespread use of purses. These Modernist-looking clips combine functionality and decorative flair, their fastening system enabling them to be clipped onto a purse or a nécessaire. Their geometric forms—square or rectangular for the most part—provide decoration that plays on the chromatic diversity of different metal alloys: yellow gold, white gold, and platinum are found alongside plator and osmior in certain pieces. Precious stones like rubies were also used to decorate these clips, as were ornamental stones like malachite, lapis lazuli, or rock crystal, introducing new color combinations.
